1. What is a smart card? Smart card is a credit-card-sized plastic card that contains a general-purpose microprocessor, typically an 8-bit microcontroller. The microprocessor is underneath a gold contact pad located on one side of the card. The smart card will be issued only once. You can load e-values onto the smart card which will be given every month along with the salary by your company in lieu of cash towards Meal Allowance as a part of CTC.
2. How do I use a smart card? Smart Cards can be used as a mode of payment (instead of cash) for purchase of services/food items in affiliated food outlets within your Office Premises. You can swipe this card on POS terminals kept at merchant establishments in your Office Canteen/Campus and purchase ready-to-eat food items on entering your four digit PIN and Purchase Value, This value would be debited from your card and a receipt would be printed with the current transaction details and the Balance left on your card.
3. Where do I use a smart card? In affiliated caterer, sweet shops, bakeries, fast food joints, food outlets within your office campus. 4. How will smart cards make consumers' lives easier? The smart card will be able to do the work of several single-purpose cards, allowing the consumer to use one card for their payments, online ID, loyalty points, and personal organizer, smart cards will make it easier and more convenient for consumers to make payments anytime, anywhere.
5. What are the major benefits that smart cards offer consumers? Smart cards contain the following unique features –
- Chip is tamper-resistant
- Information stored on the card can be PIN protected and/or read-write protected
- Capable of performing data encryption
- Capable of processing (not just storing) information
- Post-issuance update of information and application
6. What can a smart card do that a regular magnetic stripe card cannot? Smart cards can store an vast amount of information as compared to traditional, magnetic stripe cards. This enables smart cards to perform multiple functions and to make use of high security mechanisms such as advanced encryption and biometrics.
7. How and in what form do I get the Meal Allowance? You get your Meal Allowance every month as decided by your company which you can load on your Smart Cards on reload terminals placed in your Office Premises. This Smart Card can be used to avail food within your office canteen. Also, you can convert your e-Value in Vouchers which can be used in other outlets.
8. What if I lose my Smart Card? Inform your Admin / HR about the loss of the card so we can Hot-List the card. Any Transaction cannot be made with this card without entering the four digits PIN number. Do not disclose your PIN number to anyone.
9. What if I enter wrong PIN? Terminal allows you three retries. After entering a wrong PIN number thrice, your card will get blocked. Please visit our helpdesk counter or your admin in order to unblock your card.
10. Can I see my balance any time? Yes. You can take a print out of your balance from any of the terminals at the cafeteria. 11. Is there any proof of transaction? Yes, you get a printed receipt on any transaction, like reload, purchase, or exchange against vouchers.
12. What if I do not spend my limit in a month? The balance is carried forward to next the month, however, make sure you spend your limit before the end of the financial year.
